Congratulations Rylee!

The Titan teachers would like to congratulate Rylee K. for being chosen as a 1st place winner in the 2012 Pittsburgh Pirates Jackie Robinson Essay and Poetry Contest!  To complement a unit on poetry in Mrs. Wolf's Advanced Language Arts class, students wrote poems to meet the criteria for the contest.  Mrs. Wolf submitted the poems to the Pirates organization, and out of 2,700 entries, Rylee K. was chosen as the first place winner!  All of the Titan teachers are very proud of Rylee K. for her accomplishments.  Check out the winning poem below!

Would you disregard the temptation, I ask,
And steer clear of the trouble?
Would you keep to yourself when your own teammates
Exclude you from the huddle?

Would you ignore the horrific taunts,
Hits, and even threats,
And comprehend that you will be
Despised, at the very best?

I ask you now, Mr. Robinson,
Before you sign your name,
Will the constant abuse avert you
From America’s favorite game?

But Jackie only chuckled and said,
With a smile slapped upon his face,
“Mr. Rickey, may God strike me down
If I give in and bring disgrace.”
